Release of CED2AR 2.9.0.0 (Metadata management and editing software)

We released CED2AR v2.9.0.0 for download. The software is deployed on our live CED2AR instances as well, including the live demo at https://demo.ncrn.cornell.edu.

New Features

The following high level features have been added in this release:

New +Create tab in Manage codebooks page. – Allows the user to take a dataset (Stata or SPSS) and generate a basic DDI-C codebook. Finally, the new codebook is loaded into the CED2AR database. This is an experimental feature that works with file datasets. (The repository option has not been implemented.)

The Modify a Codebook page is now titled Manage codebooks – There were some minor UI changes to the v2.8 page, tabs and buttons. In v2.9, the new page title is Manage codebooks. The old Add tab is now Upload.

ced2ardata2ddi service added – A new SOA service has been added to support the conversion of datasets (Stata or SPSS) into DDI-C codebook format. (The SOA service is only used in the +Create tab. System administrators have the option of turning off this service. If the administrator unchecks the service, the +Create tab will not be displayed to the user.)

Release of version 2.8 of the Comprehensive Extensible Data Documentation and Access Repository (CED²AR)

The Cornell node of the NSF-Census Research Network has released source code and binaries for version 2.8 of the Comprehensive Extensible Data Documentation and Access Repository (CED²AR) software. Notable additions include support for neo4j (graph database) and crowdsourcing (see also our other announcement and a short demo). Crowdsourcing metadata editor now in beta release at NCRN Cornell

User feedback has been a critical component of the Cornell Synthetic Data Server since its start, and the incorporation of user feedback into the synthetic data sets hosted on the Synthetic Data Server has contributed to their improvement.

Today, we released new tools to assist users of the Synthetic Data Server in the improvement of the datasets they used. In particular, we made tools for improving documentation. Documentation for the SIPP Synthetic Beta and the Synthetic LBD have been available at https://www2.ncrn.cornell.edu/ced2ar-web/ since 2014. These documents were developed entirely by data curators. Users can now access the wiki version by selecting a codebook, for instance the SSB v6.02 codebook), and clicking “View crowdsourced contributions” on any page.

Then, users can add or enhance the available documentation by logging in using their ORCID ID (http://orcid.org):

Then selecting the “pencil” icon to enter edit mode on any page, for instance for a particular variable:

All edits are identified to a user’s ORCID ID. The data curators may incorporate contributed changes into the official version in the future, but data users can consult the crowdsourced “wiki” version as it gets created.

We hope that you will contribute! This is still early-release software, so bugs or feature requests for the software should be reported to the NCRN Cornell node using the bug report feature at the bottom of each page:

Release of SIPP Synthetic Beta v6.0 announced, using NCRN-created, CED²AR-hosted codebook

The Census Bureau today announced the release of a new version of the SIPP Synthetic Beta, v6.0. The documentation for the new release is provided by the CED²AR-hosted SSB v6 codebook. Release of CED²AR software release 2.6

The Cornell NCRN node has released version 2.6 of the Comprehensive Extensible Data Documentation and Access Repository (CED²AR) software. The code is deployed at the main Cornell CED²AR repository at https://www2.ncrn.cornell.edu/ced2ar-web/. Interested users can download the source code from the Github repository at https://github.com/ncrncornell/ced2ar/, and can try the software out either on the demonstration server at https://demo.ncrn.cornell.edu/ or by downloading a desktop version from https://github.com/ncrncornell/ced2ar/releases.
