NCRN Nodes

Eight nodes comprised of researchers conducting innovative, highly-interdisciplinary investigations of theory, methodology and computational tools of interest.

NCRN Coordinating Office The National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) and Cornell University, in its support of internal communications of the National Census Research Network (NCRN), as well as the network's relationship with multiple stakeholder communities, manages the NSF-Census Research Network Coordination Office (NCRN-CO).
Carnegie-Mellon University The Carnegie-Mellon node will conduct research on three basic issues of interest related to the conduct of censuses: privacy, costs, and response rates.
Cornell University The Cornell University node will bridge the transition to restricted-access data and offer the scholar, the scientific community, and the custodial agency a feasible path to long-term data preservation.
Duke University / National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) Duke University and the National Institute of Statistical Sciences are managing the Triangle Census Research Network (TCRN). TCRN will develop broadly applicable methodologies that will transform and improve data dissemination practice in the federal statistical system.
Northwestern University The node at Northwestern University will address fundamental problems for government statistical agencies, such as how to understand the value of the statistics they produce, how to compare value to cost in order to guide rational setting of statistical priorities, and how to increase value for given cost.
University of Colorado at Boulder / University of Tennessee The University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Tennessee are responsible for the Spatial Sciences Census Research Node (SSCRN). The SSCRN fosters a connection between the spatial and survey sciences.
University of Michigan The University of Michigan node will undertake research that responds to the specific analytic and operational requirements of the Census Bureau and other federal statistical agencies to improve their estimates while reducing costs and respondent burden.
University of Missouri The University of Missouri is focusing on the American Community Survey. The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey that releases data annually, providing communities with the timely information needed to plan the distribution of resources and services.
University of Nebraska University of Nebraska-Lincoln is focusing its work on reducing error in computerized survey data collection.
